Ubiquinone synthetic pathway in flagellation of Salmonella typhimurium.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Flagellation of Salmonella typhimurium was found to require a functional pathway for ubiquinone synthesis as well as growth in the presence of aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acids. Selection for constitutive flagellation eliminated the requirement for growth in the presence of added carboxylic acids.

Lesions in the nuo operon, encoding NADH dehydrogenase complex I, prevent PurF-independent thiamine synthesis and reduce flux through the oxidative pentose phosphate pathway in Salmonella enterica serovar typhimurium.
In Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, PurF-independent thiamine synthesis (or alternative pyrimidine biosynthesis) allows strains, under some growth conditions, to synthesize thiamine in the absence of the first step in the purine biosynthetic pathway. Mutations have been isolated in a number of loci that prevent this synthesis and thus result in an Apb(-) phenotype. Here we identify a ne...
متن کاملMultilocus Sequence Typing of the Clinical Isolates of Salmonella Enterica Serovar Typhimurium in Tehran Hospitals
Background: Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium is one of the most important serovars of Salmonella enterica and is associated with human salmonellosis worldwide. Many epidemiological studies have focused on the characteristics of Salmonella Typhimurium in many countries as well as in Asia. This study was conducted to investigate the genetic characteristics of Salmonella Typhimurium using m...
متن کاملGenetic and biochemical analysis of Salmonella typhimurium FliI, a flagellar protein related to the catalytic subunit of the F0F1 ATPase and to virulence proteins of mammalian and plant pathogens.
FliI is a Salmonella typhimurium protein that is needed for flagellar assembly and may be involved in a specialized protein export pathway that proceeds without signal peptide cleavage. FliI shows extensive sequence similarity to the catalytic beta subunit of the F0F1 ATPase (A. P. Volger, M. Homma, V. M. Irikura, and R. M. Macnab, J. Bacteriol. 173:3564-3572, 1991). It is even more similar to ...
متن کاملMutants defective in the energy-conserving NADH dehydrogenase of Salmonella typhimurium identified by a decrease in energy-dependent proteolysis after carbon starvation.
NADH dehydrogenase is the first component of the respiratory chain. It transfers electrons from NADH to ubiquinone and concomitantly establishes a proton motive force across the membrane. Salmonella typhimurium mutants defective in this enzyme were isolated in a screen for strains with increased expression of beta-galactosidase from a hemA-lacZ protein fusion. This unexpected phenotype results ...
متن کاملIdentification of Salmonella spp. and Salmonella typhimurium by a multiplex PCR-based assay from poultry carcasses in Mashhad- Iran
Poultry meat has been identified as one of the principal foodborne sources of Salmonella. In this preliminary study the prevalence of Salmonella spp. and its typhimurium serovar contamination of broiler carcasses, were determined. Using the rinse test method, numbers of 60 samples, representing 20 broiler flocks, were collected from poultry carcasses after the chilling stage in the processing l...
